This project is based on a 6V Solar Cell and constructed with two voltage regulators, one of 5V and other of 3.3V. The project is integrated inside a plastic box and in its exterior side is mounted the Solar Cell and a selectable switch to decide between 5V and 3.3V. the dropout of the 5 v regulator is 7 v. does the solar cell put out more than 6 v or are you just checking at low current and do not see the dropout?
There are LDO 5v regulators to that would not have that problem.

Fantastic project. Is it possible you could increase its utility by adding a battery storage Option? That way you could charge during the day and use the 3.3VDC or 5.0VDC later whenever you need it.

and thing the mind can conceive.... Yes that could be done, look for battery charging projects and use the solar cell output as the source, then select via switches or diodes (schottky for low drop) battery or solar as the source to the regulators.
